Closing a charity

Organisations, including charities, have a natural lifecycle.  Eventually they may lose their relevance or run out of resources.  Sadly Covid-19 has accelerated this process; it has been forecast that 1 in 10 non-profits in the UK will face bankruptcy as a result of the pandemic.  Closures should be managed effectively to avoid bad endings where knowledge and experience are lost, staff and volunteers are left with emotional traumas, money and assets are wasted, and staff and trustees without sufficient knowledge of the law inadvertently act illegally.

Resources for preparing for the later stages of an organisation's lifecycle and planning for its closure can be found here.
